Boostrix Vaccination
Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones with the Boostrix Vaccine
The Boostrix vaccine provides essential protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough (pertussis). These serious illnesses can cause severe complications, especially in young babies, older adults, and pregnant women. Staying up to date with your vaccinations helps protect both you and those around you.
Who is Eligible for a Funded Boostrix Vaccine?
Boostrix is free for certain groups, including: ✔ Pregnant women from 16 weeks (recommended in the second trimester)
✔ Children aged 11–12 years as part of routine immunisations
✔ Adults at 45 and 65 years old (if they have not received four previous tetanus doses)
✔ Parents or primary caregivers of premature babies admitted to NICU or SCBU for more than 3 days
If you don’t qualify for a funded vaccine, our pharmacists can still provide Boostrix for individuals 18 years and older as a private service.
Why Get the Boostrix Vaccine?
Diphtheria – A highly contagious bacterial infection that can lead to severe illness and long-term organ damage.
Tetanus (Lockjaw) – A potentially fatal disease caused by bacteria found in soil, leading to painful muscle stiffness and high fever.
Whooping Cough (Pertussis) – A highly infectious respiratory disease that can cause prolonged coughing fits and breathing difficulties, especially in infants.
When Should You Get Boostrix?
Children: At 11 years old, with catch-up doses available for those who missed earlier vaccinations.
Pregnant Women: From 16 weeks, preferably during the second trimester, to pass on immunity to the baby.
Adults: At 45 and 65 years to maintain protection as immunity decreases over time.
Why is Boostrix Important for Pregnant Women and Caregivers?
Newborns are too young to be vaccinated against whooping cough, making them vulnerable to severe complications. By getting vaccinated during pregnancy, mothers can pass on protective antibodies to their baby. Family members, caregivers, and close contacts should also be vaccinated to help reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
